Blattner Energy - Office Expansion
Avon, MN | 72,000

Continuous Improvement
Established in 1907 and headquartered in Avon, MN, Blattner Energy is a 4th generation family-owned business, employing more than 4,000 people across the U.S. and Canada. Over the past decade, the company has grown to become one of the largest renewable energy contractors in North America - driving multiple additions to their corporate headquarters to accommodate a growing workforce. DLR Group’s design for the interiors of their latest expansion introduces a new workplace strategy developed to increase density, efficiency, and utilization, while supporting the organization’s culture and commitment to provide exceptional experiences for their employees. The expansion rethinks Blattner’s existing workplace standards by reducing the size of private offices and shifting them inboard, and moving open office workstations and collaboration zones towards the window wall for greater access to daylight - capitalizing on views to an adjacent lake and wetlands beyond. A training center on the ground floor welcomes employees from throughout North America for continuing education and training needs. A robust experiential graphics program, also provided by DLR Group, incorporates both fixed and digital graphics that celebrate the company’s rich history, purpose, values and projects.
Designed to reflect Blattner Energy’s forward-thinking and people-oriented culture, this 72,000-square-foot headquarters expansion is anchored by a state-of-the-art training center, including a 145-seat tiered auditorium and a variety of meeting and seminar rooms, as well as pre-function, open collaboration space, and a multi-purpose break room. As an organization that views environmental sustainability as part of its moral obligation to the health and wellbeing of future generations, the first phase of its headquarters was certified LEED Platinum. This mindset has continued to inform subsequent campus expansions, all of which support the client’s broader sustainability goals.
